FLATBREADS

Maybe the world is flat after all? It turns out that every culture, every nation, has a flatbread that is cherished and enjoyed daily. In most cases, these are hearty, rustic, healthier-for-you breads, often made with whole grains, certainly without preservatives.

Fabulous Flats™ is a celebration of the world’s tastiest flatbreads. Most, like our Indian-style Naans, are authentic examples of an indigenous flatbread. And just like the real thing, Fabulous Flats™ Naans are hand-stretched, made with ghee (clarified butter), contain no preservatives and no hydrogenated oils. To ensure authenticity, they are baked in a traditional tandoor oven at very high heat, which is where they pick up their sultry, smoky, hearth-baked flavor.

We use authentic ingredients and take no short cuts to make our international flatbreads.

It is our aim at fgf brands to bring the best tasting international ethnic flatbreads to North America. In the United States, we market them under our Fabulous Flats™ brand. In some regional U.S. markets and across Canada, our authentic flatbreads are sold under different, well recognized, premium private label brands.

Our earliest flatbread successes

Fabulous Flats™ Tandoori Naan

“Naan” actually translates as “bread” in several Asian languages so if you want to be accurate, ask your in-store bakery for “naan.” If you ask for “naan bread,” you are actually asking for “bread bread!” (One more important grammatical rule: the plural of “naan” is “naan!”)

Our Indian-style naan are hand-stretched, and all-natural; they contain NO shelf-extenders, NO preservatives, NO trans fats, and NO hydrogenated oil. In fact, for authenticity, we even use ghee (clarified butter) to flavor our naan.

Suggested uses

Reheat Fabulous Flats™ Naan and serve with Indian or Asian fare, but there are many other novel uses:

As Wraps:
+ Fill and roll Fabulous Flats™ Naan to make tasty, handheld lunches.

+ Wrap Naan around any thick filling (even a chunky chick pea stew, for example); slice rolled, warmed Naan crosswise into bite-sized pieces – they make tasty hors d’oeuvres.

+ Wrap Naan around vegetarian, or beef, hot dogs to create a Naan Dog.

For Dipping:
+ Cut toasted Naan diagonally into strips, or triangles, and serve with hummus, deli spreads, Indian raita, Greek tzatziki, or flavorful yogurt dips.

For Salads:
+ Cut toasted Naan into thin strips for salad toppings, replacing taco strips – much tastier!

As a base:
+ Brush Naan with olive oil, set into a pie pan, top with an egg filling and bake until golden; serve hot. Try quiche filling, or scrambled eggs.

+ Use Naan as a platform to make a stunning ‘white’ pizza, or pesto pizza.

For Sandwiches (we call them Naanwiches™):

+ Naan add a tasty twist to everyday Tuna Melts and to other sandwiches.

+ Spread, or line, two Naan with your favorite cheese and press the two flatbreads together; grill both sides until toasted – makes a tasty Toasted Grilled Cheese “Naanwich.”

At dinner:
+ Brush with olive, or vegetable, oil, sprinkle with finely chopped onion, cumin, coriander, turmeric (for color) and bake, or grill, until heated through; serve at dinner instead of bread, dinner rolls, or crusty loaves. Gives guests or family something to do at the table – tear pieces off a tasty table bread, adding joy to the dining experience.

Fabulous Flats™ Focaccia

This Italian bread got its name from focus, which is Latin for “hearth,” where families traditionally baked their focaccia. Today this rosemary-scented bread is often cut horizontally and used to make sandwiches.

Contrary to some North American bakers who take a baking shortcut and use sourdough starter in their dough, we go the traditional route with Fabulous Flats™ Focaccia, only using European cultured yeasts to get our bread to rise. Another tilt toward authenticity.

And like our other international flatbreads, Fabulous Flats™ Focaccia contains NO preservatives, NO extenders, NO hydrogenated oils, and NO trans fats.

Fabulous Flats™ Armenian Lavash

Lavash, a very old bread, is enjoyed across a swath countries – Armenia, Iran, and Lebanon to name a few. The lavash of Armenia are classically made on a sajj, a large concave iron plate; we bake ours in our stone-lined tandoor oven.

Our pliable, tasty sheets of Fabulous Flats™ Lavash can be wrapped around sandwich fixings, or can be heated and torn at the table, served in lieu of bread or rolls.

Our test kitchen team loves lining a sheet of Fabulous Flats™ lavash with slices of tangy cheese; they fold it over, zap it for 30 seconds in the microwave, producing a delicious lavash melt.
