Fabulous Flats Naan a Superstar!
Named “Best New Food Product in the U.S. for 2006” by Prestigious Industry Magazine
Orlando, FLA – fgf brands’ latest innovation – an authentic, tandoor-baked Indian naan – has been named “Best New Retail Food Product in the U.S., by the industry’s leading food magazine, Prepared Foods, which annually hosts the Spirit of Innovation Awards.
The awards are an industry attempt to identify the best new retail and foodservice products in the U.S. The awards, sponsored annually by Prepared Foods and Ventura Foods, is the equivalent of Hollywood’s Oscars ® -- an industry-based group aiming to bring recognition to stellar performance.
In the case of fgf brands, the performance was a year-long race to invent a recipe for naan, India’s classic flatbread made with ghee (clarified butter) and then to invent a commercial tandoor oven in which to make the flatbreads.
Typically, the only place you find naan is in an Indian restaurant where trained chefs make flatbreads on the vertical wall of a charcoal-fired tandoor oven, one by one. fgf brands’ founders, Sam Ajmera and Jim White, knew from the get-go that they would have to invent a continuous commercial tandoor oven that would fire to 1500 F degrees (815 Celsius), producing perfectly charred, slightly smoky tasting flatbreads.
To reach this goal, Ajmera and White hired teams of consultants – engineers, food scientists, and product developers – to meet tight concurrent deadlines. Within one year of the date that the FGF decided to produce tasty ethnic flatbreads, they invented, engineered, blueprinted, applied for an international patent , built and turned on the world’s first (and only) continuous commercial tandoor oven, capable of churning out 1 million flatbreads a week! And in the case of naan, the first commercial flatbread that FGF has brought to market, every one of them is all-natural, hand-stretch, made with ghee (clarified butter), preservative-free and trans fat-free.
In the U.S., Fabulous Flats Naan are available in Whole Foods, Stop N Shop, Meijer, Hannaford and Food Lion stores, as well as in the specialty gourmet chain Dean & DeLuca and in a large number of independent retail outlets.
In Canada and in many retail and foodservice locations in the U.S., these same tasty flatbreads are available under leading private label brands.
